Every good weight loss program talks about metabolism, but they dont always indicate how important it is or that you need to work on it to help you reach your weight loss goals.Metabolism is basically the burning of fat in your body, the greater the intensity of the burn the more fat is burnt.
Technically speaking metabolism is the process of converting food to energy. This occurs in the muscles and organs and the is commonly called the burning of calories. Doctors and specialists talk about your BRM. The BRM- Basal Metabolic Rate, is the process of calorific expenditure that is required to maintain your basal body functions such as your breathing, heart beat and muscle tone etc.
Here we have 6 ways of boosting your BMR and if you can manage to fit all of them into your daily schedule they you will have a dramitic effect on boosting your metabolism.
1. Always eat breakfast. If you do not eat breakfast your bodies metabolism slows down.
2. Never eat less than 1200 calories per day as your body will think you are starving and shut everything down including your metabolism.
3. Look for ways of being active. Walk to the shops, walk the dog, play football with your children, even do the hoovering. All these actions will keep boosting the metabolism.
4. Work on toning your muscles with weight training three days a week. Having toned muscles accelerates the metabolism.
5. Do aerobic exercise, such as waliking, swimming, dancing etc on a daily basis. Around 30 to 60 minutes a day is a good amount.
6. On top of everything else try and take an extra walk at lunch time. It only needs to be about 15 minutes but it will help to maintain your metabolism.
When you do any type of exercise you must warm up your muscles that you are going to use so as to prevent any straining or injury. One way of doing this for walking is to start slowly and build up your pace gradually. You should also warm down at the end, so when walking just slow the pace down gradually until you stop. Your muscles will feel so much better if you take care of them.
